My first day was filled with anxious and excited feelings, an inspiring classroom, and a very busy schedule. One thing that happened during this day that I expected was receiving many surprised looks from the children. They did not hide their curiosity as they frequently glanced over at me during their bell work. However, I did not expect them to welcome me as warmly as they did once I introduced myself. They adjusted to my presence very quickly and treated me as their second teacher with any questions they had. My teacher used strategies from the books Daily 5 and Words Their Way, so it was very interesting to see her implement the activities that I have been reading about in my other classes. This will be help me connect my classes to my internship when I can see the activities firsthand. My teacher asked me to teach a lesson right off the bat, which was also surprising. Feeling her confidence in me helped me feel much more comfortable throughout the day. Overall, it was a very busy day that I really enjoyed! I cannot wait to see what the next few weeks have in store for me as I continue to grow in the classroom.
