The two articles we read this week were The Red Shoe by Linda Webb and Why Is That Child So Rude? by Beth Lindsay Templeton. I really like how both articles addressed a similar issue in today's classroom: Teachers have many misconceptions about children's attitudes, behavior, or quality of work. Templeton addressed a common question teachers ask frequently, "Why doesn't he do his homework?" I have observed that in the Boys and Girls Club, there is usually only one or maybe two staff members in a room of about 40 children trying to do their homework. That does not allow for one-on-one time with every student, and that student may not have the opportunity to complete their homework at home due to various reasons. I think it is so beneficial for us to be there at this club because it allows children to receive that help they need with their homework and I really enjoy supporting these students who need it.
The picture included is a writing sample from one of my students. I am eager to look into her interesting writing format and see how we can work together to write from left to write in her future writing pieces.
