Chapter 2 explored important theories in education and how to integrate the arts throughout the curriculum. I was able to connect with Gardner's Eight Intelligences on page 72 and I enjoyed reading about all of the strategies teachers can use with this theory to incorporate the arts. At the Boys and Girls Club, I noticed that two students in my small group seemed to be kinesthetic learners or "movers" as the book calls them. In order to use their strengths, I asked them to make up a skit that relates to their favorite TV show, Spongebob Squarepants. They were thrilled to move around and show off their talents through drama! I loved watching them collaborate and use gestures to express their characters. After reading this chapter, I noticed that there are so many strategies that can be incorporated into lessons and I could see myself using the "Eight-Minute Energizer" in my classroom. I would also like to explore the "Planning" strategy in which I would plan out my lessons to track intelligences used every day. It is important to understand this theory because every student is very different and learns in diverse ways, so I look forward to using this in my future lessons.
